IUOE LOCAL 870 TRAINING Updated May 13, 2025

ELIGIBILITY FOR TRAINING

    1. Current members in good standing with training contribution dollars received on their behalf.
    1. If a member has no training dollars they must pay up front for their online training. If they go to work for an employer that contributes to the Training Fund, they can request reimbursement within 12 months of the date they paid for the online training. It will be reimbursed only if sufficient training dollars have been received.
    1. If a non-member pays for online training then becomes a member and works for an employer that contributes to the Training Fund, they can request reimbursement within 12 months of the date they paid for the online training. It will be reimbursed only if sufficient training dollars have been received.

SAFETY TICKETS

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR TICKETS ARE UP TO DATE.
  • Rights & Responsibilities (R&R) – 5 year cert
  • Safety Construction Orientation Training (SCOT) – 5 year cert
  • Pipeline Construction Safety Training (PCST) – 5 year cert
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2 (GD LVL2) – 3 year cert
  • The above courses are available through the IUOE Local 870 Training Fund, provided you qualify. ALL courses from outside providers are required to be authorized or you may not be reimbursed.

Please check your equipment tickets and keep them up to date. If you are ready to renew your tickets, get started on a new piece of equipment or just need a quick refresh, please call Sheldon to book a time.

We will be scheduling an overhead crane course in the fall,  call the hall to get your name on the list

General Mine Safety Awareness

If you have taken the GMSA course, please note your expiry date. To recertify, you must enroll within 30 days of your ticket expiry. Please contact Sheryl for further details.

International Training and Education Center - Crosby, Texas

Please google iuoetraining.combobulate.io on your desktop.  Or you can access the app directly on your smart phone by searching  IUOE  ITEC Training in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. (Choose the app with our dial logo)  Now you create an account and from the menu bar choose “course registration” to view and register for courses.

 

Apprentices

All Apprentices indentured through IUOE Local 870 are required to apply for applicable grants to recover their fees. If there are no grants available, see below for reimbursements.

Indenture fees:  You will be reimbursed after the successful completion of Level 1 technical training. Paid one time only.

Technical training fees: You are required to pay your technical training fees to register and will be reimbursed after the successful completion of each level. You will only be paid once for each level.

Travel & Sub will be paid according to the Crane Rental agreement, effective January 1, 2025.

Exam Challenge fees: Members will be reimbursed upon successful completion. There is no sub or travel paid for this.

 

Please keep the hall up to date with your hours and year card as your wage is based on this information. Please submit your F6A’s to the hall. From here they will be verified and sent to SATCC. Additional help for all levels is available. Please google skillplan.ca to learn more.

Training Registration opens at the end of May. Please login to your account to see if you qualify.

Level 1 opens May 29 at 8am, Level 2 opens May 28 at 8am, Level 3 opens May 27 at 8am.

CALSC – Canada Apprentice Loan   This is an interest free government loan available to apprentices.  You can receive up to $4000 per year ($12,000 in total).  Re-payment of the loan starts 6 months after successful completion of your Apprenticeship program.  The loans are to help apprentices financially throughout  the duration of their apprenticeship.  Apprentices are required to apply up to 3 months prior to,  and/or before their current level training is complete.  Apprentices are able to apply in each session of technical training.
